Understanding the 4 C’s: Carat, Clarity, Colour, and Cut….
Every diamond’s value is rated according to its clarity, colour, and cut, as well as its carat weight. Understanding diamond terminology will help you to choose the best diamond for your budget.

Carat
"Carat" is the unit of weight used to measure all gemstones. One carat is sub-divided into 100 "points".
75 points = ¾ carat in weight = 0.75ct
5 carats = 1 gram

Cut
A diamond cutter [or insert correct name for the craftsmen who cut diamonds] skilfully cuts each diamond to uncover its maximum brilliance and sparkle.

Excellent: Cut to ideal proportions to yield maximum brilliance and beauty.
Good: Cut just outside the tolerances of the ideal cut.
Average: Cut to average proportions, with somewhat reduced brilliance and beauty to the trained eye.
Commercial: Cut with reduced brilliance, to use as much of the diamond as possible while maintaining some brilliance.
Irregular: Cut with distinctly reduced brilliance, to use as much of the diamond as possible.
